The most anticipated premiere of Prime Video in the coming months may be The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power , but the reality is that Amazon’s streaming platform is preparing a summer full of truly heart-stopping premieres. On the one hand, we have just welcomed season 3 of The Boys , one of the best series in its catalogue, and also the long-awaited Spanish blockbuster No Limits about a trip around the world by Juan Sebastián Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan, but the Amazon’s SVOD service has also announced a couple of super releases for next July: The Final List , a suspense thriller starring Chris Pratt, and now also Paper Girls , one of the most promising series of 2022.
First announced in 2019 and officially commissioned in 2020, Prime Video updated the status of the series adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan ‘s successful comic book saga last May, specifically through a ‘teaser’ that confirmed that the debut would take place soon. And the platform has delivered on its promise. We have a release date, the first official images and a few more details about what we can expect from the particular Stranger Things from the Amazon streaming service.
WHEN DOES ‘PAPER GIRLS’ PREMIERE?
As officially announced, all eight episodes of the first season will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on July 29 in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
WHAT IS THE MAIN PLOT OF ‘PAPER GIRLS’ AND WHY IS IT BEING COMPARED TO ‘STRANGER THINGS’?
The starting point of Paper Girls is the first hours of the morning after Halloween night in the year 1988. Four friends who are in charge of delivering the newspapers in their small town are carrying out the delivery when, unexpectedly, they meet with a strange contraption and some strange people who turn out to be time travelers.
As the official description of the series warns, Erin, Mac, Tiffany and KJ “are caught in the crossfire between these warring travelers, which changes the course of their lives forever.”
Although the story is really different from Stranger Things , the very fact that it is set in the 80s and that it has as protagonists a group of girls on their bicycles inevitably makes us think of the successful Netflix series. Similarly, what starts out innocent quickly turns into a dangerous situation where they must fight for their very survival.
WHO’S WHO ON ‘PAPER GIRLS’?
The four girls through whose eyes we see this captivating sci-fi story are played by Camryn Jones (Tiffany), Riley Lai Nelet (Erin), Sofia Rosinsky (Mac) and Fina Strazza (KJ), while Ali Wong brings to life the adult version of Erin, Nate Corddry plays Larry and Adina Porter plays Priora.
