During A Recent Interview, The Director Of ‘Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area’ Revealed The Reason For Distinguishing Jeon Jong Seo’s Character, Named Tokyo, From The Original Version.
Recently, director Kim Hong Sun had an interview to discuss the drama ” Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area “. On this occasion, he also revealed the reason for distinguishing the character Tokyo ( Jeon Jong Seo ) from the original version.
“Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” is an adaptation of the famous Spanish Netflix series ” Money Heist “. This drama tells the story of a Professor ( Yoo Ji Tae ) who plans an ambitious heist that will result in a big payout. To make this happen, he started looking for potential team members.
The recruited members chose city names as code names, and they all had strong personalities. Their plan seems perfect, but they must face various unexpected situations because of the hostages they take.
Of all the players, Tokyo is the most different character from the original version. Different from the original Tokyo which is sloppy and eccentric, Tokyo “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” is depicted as a girl from Generation Z who is actually ordinary.
When asked about the difference, director Kim Hong Sun explained, “It is a natural result. He is a generation Z who is free from North Korea and interacts with the Professor the most.”
“Therefore, he became a calmer person with a more reserved personality. I accidentally changed his character from his original character,” added the director.
Director Kim Hong Sun then talked about his experience working with Jeon Jong Seo. He said, “He definitely has his style when it comes to acting. I didn’t want him to copy Tokyo from the original, and I think he did a great job creating his own version of Tokyo.”
Regarding the difficulties he experienced while brainstorming for Professor’s idea, the director stated, “The original character was nerdy but very charming. So we had to decide whether we wanted to stick with the original character or not. After much thought, Yoo Ji Tae and I decided to make Our own version of the professor.”
Meanwhile, the second part of “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” will be broadcast in 2022.
