Recently Yoo Sun was in an interview and talked about her recently finished drama “Eve”. This tvN drama is a romantic drama about a chaebol’s 2 trillion won (approximately $1.7 billion) divorce lawsuit that shocked the entire nation. Unbeknownst to the public, the high-stakes lawsuit was the result of a carefully calculated revenge scheme over 13 years.
In the drama Yoo Sun plays Han So Ra, who has to be the best. Han So Ra is the only daughter of influential politician Han Pan Ro ( Jeon Gook Hwan ), and the wife of Kang Yoon Gyum ( Park Byung Eun ). However, behind her flawless and glamorous appearance, she is emotionally anxious and obsessed with her husband.
“It seems I’m still lingering inside Han So Ra. I feel it’s time to say goodbye to her now,” said Yoo Sun. Regarding the drama’s surprising ending, Han So Ra said, “I hope Han So Ra will be punished in some way,” she added and conveyed her surprise after seeing the script and added, “It was even better because it was an ending beyond my imagination. The emotions are complicated and difficult, but it’s better for viewers because it’s a result that goes against expectations.”
In addition, Yoo Sun honestly said, “I was very lonely playing Han So Ra. She has everything in the world, but she also has the submissive aspect of just wanting her husband’s love. The feeling of losing a husband like that must be very painful. He was someone who was very hurt because he didn’t even receive his father’s love, and he became cornered without being acknowledged by anyone. Her sense of alienation from the situation also affected me. I feel so lonely and sad.”
As for how to try to portray his character, Yoo Sun explained, “I usually don’t look for something to refer to when I play a role. I’m just trying to find the answer in the script. I haven’t [played] many evil roles. I have to make another different kind of villain. Han So Ra’s personality is very distinctive. She has an innocent side, and she also has a pure and noble love for her husband. The deeper you investigate (into him), the purer the evil he has. I tried to express it a little more.”
Han So Ra scares the audience with all kinds of evil deeds, but sometimes, she makes them laugh with her unexpected aspects. I wanted to show that she lacks personality and that she is an immature adult. I think Han So Ra is the only character who can make people laugh in this drama. There are many things that cause laughter in a very primitive way. , like when she cries over her husband’s infidelity and goes after someone.” Then he added that he was happy that some people felt a sense of closeness with Han So Ra that could make them laugh at times like that.
There were many scenes where Han So Ra would raise her voice, which Yoo Sun wasn’t completely used to because she had never played such a character in her 20 years of acting. “Some people say that my stress will be reduced during filming. The really difficult part of playing this role was the screaming scene. I’ve never screamed like that in my daily life. I also tend to hold back my anger. I’m the type of person who ends up crying while angry. Looking back, I’ve never expressed my anger in such a direct and intense way. This is also the first time I’ve put on a show like that,” he exclaimed.
Meanwhile Yoo Sun explained that he was really wondering what kind of scream Han So Ra would make and commented, “At some point, I had an epiphany. I was completely focused on Han So Ra’s emotions, which exploded without holding back her anger. I made a sound I had never heard before. Some people say that I sound like an ‘old man’. It was the moment when I discovered something new about myself.”
